The players who look most likely to leave Chelsea before transfer window shuts – and whether they should let them go

Chelsea have been busy in transfer windows ever since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took control of the club, spending well over £1 billion, but this may be a rare transfer window where there are more outgoings than incomings for the Blues.

Bar a replacement for Wesley Fofana, which may not even happen in this window, there are no real players who Chelsea would be looking to bring in. Especially now Trevoh Chalobah has been recalled from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.

But in terms of players out, there is a sizeable list of possible departures…

Renato Veiga

Renato Veiga has been heavily linked to Borussia Dortmund and is said to be looking for regular game time in central defence, which the German side would be able to offer.

The 21-year-old has had decent minutes this season, with 12 starts, but only one of those has been in the Premier League, and it was against Bournemouth in September. Dortmund are keen on taking him on loan with an option to buy.

Veiga has shown plenty of promise and it would be a shame for Chelsea to lose him permanently without getting to see how he can develop.

Christopher Nkunku

Christopher Nkunku is another player who has been linked away for months, reportedly unhappy with his role as a substitute under Enzo Maresca and unable to break into the first team.

PSG are not said to be interested in the forward, whilst Manchester United have emerged as surprise contenders who could be looking to sign the Frenchman, according to The Sun. Bayern Munich have also emerged as contenders for his signature.

Nkunku has 16 goals in 42 games for the Blues since joining in 2023. His time in London has been plagued by injuries and he has never really had the chance to show the form he displayed at RB Leipzig.

Ben Chilwell

Ben Chilwell has been frozen out since the start of the season by Maresca, with the Italian coach recently saying “he’s considering options to leave”. The full-back has been linked to West Ham, with his former manager Graham Potter said to be a big fan, as well as Manchester United.

Apart from Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the Hammers are struggling for depth in the full-back positions and Chilwell could be a perfect fit.

Cesare Casadei

Another youngster who Chelsea are reportedly looking to offload is Cesare Casadei and the Italian is not short on potential suitors. Torino have been linked with the midfielder and have offered £10 million for him, according to the BBC.

If the transfer goes through, Chelsea will have made a loss, as they signed him from Inter Milan for £12.6 million two years ago.

A potential solution for the Blues would be to add a buyback clause to the deal. The 22-year-old is also being monitored by Monza and Feyenoord.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has had a difficult first season in London, despite being brought in by former manager Enzo Maresca following his time at Leicester.

With the quality of midfielders in the starting XI and the bench, he has struggled to get near the team and West Ham are said to be interested in the 26-year-old.

He clearly has talent but it looks difficult for him to establish himself at Chelsea.

Axel Disasi

The French defender is being linked with a loan move away from the club this month. He has struggled to establish himself as a regular, which has not been helped by some costly mistakes.

Aston Villa and Juventus are interested, according to L’Equipe, but with the squad already light in that area he would probably need replacing.

Tosin

Sky Sports are reporting that Brighton want to sign the former Fulham man. He only joined Chelsea in the summer and it seems premature to let him leave, especially with the shortage in defence as mentioned.

Carney Chukwuemeka

Like Chilwell, Chukwuemeka seems to have little chance of breaking into Maresca’s team and has barely played this season. Dortmund are said to be keen on a loan move which would make a lot of sense.
