TSG Hoffenheim will go up against FC Bayern Munich on the final day (Saturday at 15:30 CEST / Live Ticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de). Before the start of the season, the record champions were expecting to lift the Bundesliga shield at the PreZero Arena, but the campaign will instead end without a trophy for the first time since 2012. It will also be the final match of Thomas Tuchel's tenure, which has only been successful to a limited extent.

Thomas Tuchel oversaw 60 competitive matches as the head coach of FC Bayern Munich: his points average of 1.98 looks decent at first glance, but does not really live up to the standards of FC Bayern or Tuchel himself. Every single coach that has been in charge at Bayern this millennium has fared better in this regard with the exception of Jürgen Klinsmann (1.95 points per game), while Tuchel's previous teams Chelsea (2.08), Paris Saint-Germain (2.35) and Dortmund (2.12) performed better on the pitch.

The 50-year-old is set to end his time with the record champions as a result – with only the last-minute title triumph from last season to show for it. FC Bayern could not keep up with Leverkusen's scintillating run, while they suffered a sensational defeat away to third-division outfit 1. FC Saarbrücken in the cup and were eliminated in the Champions League semi-finals by Real Madrid. It is a highly unusual scenario for the supporters of Bayern, whose last season without a title was in 2011/12.

But Bayern will still have second place to play for on the final day of the season, with VfB Stuttgart still in a position to leapfrog the record champions. They will, however, be without a number of players for this endeavour, with the likes of Raphael Guerreiro, Jamal Musiala, Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and top goalscorer Harry Kane injured or at least doubtful.

But the match on Saturday will also be an important one for TSG: Pellegrino Matarazzo's team can still qualify for all the UEFA competitions, but can also miss out on an international berth entirely. The stage is set – even without the trophy presentation that the Bayern fans would have been expecting.
