The opening fixture of the Premier League season at Anfield threw up a number of talking points, as Liverpool overcame Bournemouth 4-2 in what was a great advertisement for the new campaign.
Italian forward, Federico Chiesa was thought to be surplus to requirements at the club this season and seen as someone who would generate funds to reinvest in new players – or at least put towards a signing like Alexander Isak who continues to be linked with a move to the club.
However, boss Arne Slot brought the player on with just over 10 minutes to go for British record signing Florian Wirtz and he made an instant impact, netting an important goal to restore Liverpool’s lead.
And the Reds faithful loved it. So much so, that they sounded their appreciation with a chant that could make it very hard for the club to sell the player who may just become elevated into Liverpool FC folklore.
Sung to the tune of “Sway” by Dean Martin, these lyrics have seemingly become an instant hit among Reds fans. They go as follows:
“We can hear them crying in Turin,
Federico, he’s here to win,
One chat with Arne Slot and he said ciao,
F**k off Juve, I’m a Kopite now!”
Obviously we don’t condone expletives or inappropriate language, though this is certainly one of those football chants that could easily catch on – especially if Chiesa stays. After his showing against Bournemouth, this might become a serious possibility.

Liverpool fans have become well-known for creating chants for players and it is usually a sign that they admire them. In the case of Chiesa, this appears to be obvious.
The club aren’t exactly desperate to sell – even after having spent nearly £300 million on new players – they’ve even done well to bring in a decent amount of money on player sales – around the £100 million mark.
Liverpool’s PSR is fine having hardly spent over the last couple of summers (basically, just the revenue they made from television rights for that particular season), while the club has also generated significant income globally as well.
It has put them in a healthy position and enabled them to really kick on in the transfer window this summer.
While the club has been (and may still be), looking at whether Chiesa could bring in a decent amount and weighing up the pros and cons, based on his performance against Bournemouth he could end up staying.
Clearly, the player still has something to offer and may be a very useful squad player, happy to sit on the bench, in what will be another long season.
