When Chivas Femenil and Tigres face each other, it is undoubtedly one of the matches we have marked on the calendar for each Liga MX Femenil tournament. This Sunday, we will once again see El Rebaño and Las Amazonas go head to head when Matchday 9 of the 2025 Apertura pits them against each other at the AKRON Stadium.
The rivalry between the two teams is rich in memorable chapters, but there is one in particular that is especially valuable for Guadalajara, as it was charged with a lot of emotion, which led to their second title in the women's circuit. Keep reading and relive it with us.
We have to go back to May 16, 2022, also at the Fortaleza Rojiblanca, when Guadalajara and Monterrey played for a ticket to the CL22 Grand Final. The overall score favored the feline team, which won 2-0 in the first leg in Nuevo León.
The task for the Rebaño Sagrado was clear: win by a minimum difference of two goals, as their position in the table favored them as a tiebreaker. So they took to the field at AKRON, with an unbeatable atmosphere created by the Chivahermanos who had gathered there.
Both teams fought hard for every ball, not giving up on a single one, and the first half was very evenly matched. But it was Chivas Femenil who struck first: from a set piece, in the final seconds of the first half, Joseline Montoya sent a cross into the box to the excitement of fans and strangers alike, until Karol Bernal appeared in the six-yard box to scrape the ball, which nestled into the far post of the opponent's goal. The euphoria was immediate, providing extra motivation for the team then coached by Juan Pablo Alfaro.
Half-time arrived, and with it a paradigm shift for the Rebaño Sagrado. The second 45 minutes belonged to the Rojiblancas from start to finish, driven by the dream of reaching another Liga MX Femenil final.
Guadalajara tried everything possible, and despite facing Tigres' defensive efforts, they kept trying to find the goal they needed. Their persistence paid off at the last minute.
With just a few minutes to go before the final whistle, 'Caro' Jaramillo took the ball on the right wing, looked up to see her teammates charging into the box, and with surgical precision sent a left-footed cross over the opposing defense, finding Kinberly Guzmán's run. A subtle touch was enough to beat Cecilia Santiago, who tried to close down the angle but did not expect the arrival of the young Guadalajara defender. In the 86th minute, the AKRON erupted again, as the ticket to the title was already in Guadalajara's hands.
The clock ran down, opening the door to a story we all know: Chivas Femenil was crowned a week later, defeating Pachuca 4-3 on aggregate, and as if that weren't enough, it was also proclaimed AP21-CL22 Champion of Champions at the expense of Rayadas.
