Tamworth goalkeeper Jasbir Singh has hailed Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison as an "absolute gent" and thanked him for his actions behind the scenes.

Tottenham Hotspur were very nearly made the victims of "magic of the cup" at the weekend. Tamworth surprisingly took Spurs to extra time in the FA Cup third round match.

From our perspective, we can pinpoint the blame on the Tottenham players for not burying the game within the 90 minutes, which is what anyone would have expected going into the match-up.

However, it is also important to give credit where its due. Tamworth played with plenty of heart and not only were they brilliant hosts, they gave excellent competition and a steep learning curve to the Spurs team.

In a conversation on X (formerly Twitter), Tamworth goalkeeper Jaz Singh described James Maddison as an "absolute gent" and thanked him for his actions behind the scenes at the Tamworth vs Tottenham match.

In his own words, Singh said: "Absolute gent I think all our boys appreciate the time and effort you made with them."

Singh put in a phenomenal shift against Tottenham. The Tamworth goalie kept a clean sheet to see Tamworth into extra time. It was a defensive mistake from Tamworth which saw Spurs break the deadlock.

Ultimately, it was great to see the respect shown by Tottenham players against Tamworth. No celebrations were over the top and if we're reading between the lines, we can assume Maddison even made an effort with the Tamworth players behind the scenes.

Without a doubt, the sense of respect shown by Tottenham players would have been instilled, if it wasn't already, by Ange Postecoglou. In the buildup to the match, Ange was quick to remind everyone that most players he's worked with, including those at Tottenham, came from a grassroots/non-league background.

While it was annoying that Tottenham were dragged into extra time by Tamworth, we can have nothing but respect for the team from Staffordshire. We also wish them nothing but the best for their future endeavours and we thank them for reminding us all what football is really about.
