The Swans should line up a return to the club for Rhian Brewster after his exit from Sheffield United.
Swansea City will be preparing for their eighth straight season of Championship football.
The South Wales-based outfit recorded an 11th placed finish last season under the stewardship of Alan Sheehan, with the Swans hopeful they can push themselves back towards the top end of the table next term.
In an effort to do so, Swansea have been active in the summer transfer market, bringing five new faces into the building.
Central defenders Ricardo Santos and Cameron Burgess have arrived on free transfers, while Bobby Wales, Ethan Galbraith and Zeidane Inoussa have linked up for sizeable fees.
The Swans could also do with another striker or two ahead of the 1st September deadline, and should look at a move for Rhian Brewster given his recent exit from Sheffield United.
Such a success in his last spell for the club, Brewster could be a game-changing signing to help build a promotion push, should he maintain his fitness levels.
As per a report by The Star, the prospect of Rhian Brewster signing a new deal at Sheffield United now appears "unlikely", with the forward leaving Bramall Lane after officially becoming a free agent when his contract expired on June 30.
The Blades had put forward a series of efforts to convince Brewster to extend his stay in the Steel City as the five-year contract he penned to join in 2020 ran down, but both parties have failed to reach an agreement and the forward's stay in South Yorkshire has now come to an end.
Joining for such a significant amount of money, Brewster’s time at Sheffield United was disastrous, blighted with multiple injuries that haltered any potential progress.
Even when fit, Brewster failed to find the back of the net on a consistent basis, registering just nine goals from 119 appearances. He did undergo his most successful season for the Blades last term though, mustering four strikes from 36 Championship games as the club missed out on promotion back to the Premier League.
With Brewster regaining his fitness and ability to handle the congestion of Championship scheduling, Swansea may be interested in a reunion. Brewster did have the best goalscoring season of his career in the Championship while in South Wales, scoring 10 times from 20 appearances.
Rhian Brewster’s excellent showing at Swansea City was the reason for his big-money move to Sheffield United, and going back to a place where he tasted so much personal success could be appealing to pursue.
His ability has never been in question, and at 25, he is approaching his prime and best years.
After getting a season under his belt of clean health, there is hope Brewster can carry that on and be a much more dependable figure over the course of a 46-game campaign.
The move will ultimately be a gamble given his injury record and salary. As per Capology, Brewster was on an estimated £35,000 a week at Bramall Lane, so a deal won’t come cheap, unless Swansea could negotiate a reduction for the promise of regular game time.
A punt like this really could be the difference in seeing Swansea competing for promotion given their current striking options are quite limited. Zan Vipotnik and Jerry Yates both failed to hit double figures last season, so an added source of goals could be beneficial to see them competing for at least a play-off place.
Provided he stays fit and hits the goalscoring trail, Brewster has all the attributes to be a quality addition at second tier level.
