Sunderland are trying to hijack Marseille’s move for RB Leipzig centre-back Lutsharel Geertruida (25), according to a report this Sunday from Foot Mercato. The Ligue 1 side has identified the Dutch international defender as their priority signing after pulling the plug on a move for Club Brugge defender Joël Ordoñez. Geertruida would be the second Leipzig player to sign for Marseille this summer as OM confirmed the loan signing of midfielder Arthur Vermeeren.
The outlet reports that Geertruida has reached an agreement on personal terms with Roberto De Zerbi’s Phocéens. Marseille now need to strike a deal with RB Leipzig before tomorrow’s deadline day. The Ligue 1 side needs to hurry as Sunderland AFC are registering a late interest in Lutsharel Geertruida. Marseille play Lyon away this Sunday.
