Sunderland have confirmed the signing of highly rated winger Chemsdine Talbi from Club Brugge for a fee believed to be around £19.5 million (€23m).

The 20-year-old Moroccan has penned a five-year contract with the newly promoted Premier League side, keeping him at the Stadium of Light until at least 2030.

Talbi enjoyed an impressive campaign in Belgium last season, notching seven goals and six assists in 44 appearances as Club Brugge finished runners-up in the Pro League and lifted the Belgian Cup. While capable on both flanks, he was primarily used on the right wing.

Born in Belgium, Talbi represented the country at youth level on 20 occasions before opting to switch his international allegiance to Morocco earlier this year. He received his first senior call-up in March but is still awaiting his debut for the Atlas Lions.

He becomes Sunderland’s fifth signing of a busy summer window, following the arrivals of Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo Mandava, and the permanent capture of Enzo Le Fée.

Speaking to the club's media team, Talbi said: "I'm really excited to be here and grateful for the opportunity to play for this Club. I made the decision because it’s a great project with a talented, exciting team full of young players - and that really motivated me.

"The Premier League is the biggest and best league in the world, so I’m looking forward to getting started. I know the fans will get behind me from the start, and I can’t wait to see them at the stadium."
