According to Ben Jacobs, the full-back has multiple options for the next step in his career, including a potential move to either of these newly-promoted sides.

The 31-year-old is out of contract with the Spanish giants and is free to discuss terms with prospective new clubs.

Reinildo featured 19 times in the league for Diego Simeone’s side last season, helping them come third in La Liga.

It has been reported that both Sunderland and Leeds have made an approach to Reinildo over a potential move this summer.

However, they face competition from within the Premier League from Nottingham Forest, with Nuno Espirito Santo looking to bolster his defensive options.

It is understood that clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia are also looking to sign the full-back amid his impending exit from Atletico Madrid.

Reinildo is set to become a free agent following the conclusion of the Club World Cup, meaning any decision over his future may have to wait until the end of the tournament.

The Mozambique international has been with the Spanish giants since the 2022 January transfer window.

The 31-year-old has made a total of 74 appearances in La Liga in that time, but is now set for a change of scenery for next season.

Sunderland and Leeds United’s promotion success

Sunderland and Leeds are both preparing for life in the Premier League following their promotion from the Championship.

Régis Le Bris’ side finished fourth in the second division table, and earned their top flight return through the play-offs.

Meanwhile, the Whites earned their place in the first division by winning the Championship title with 100 points.

Daniel Farke will now be tasked with keeping the Yorkshire outfit in the Premier League beyond one year, as Leeds look to establish themselves back at that level long-term.

Reinildo signing wouldn’t be too encouraging

Sunderland and Leeds could both use some cover at left-back next season, and Reinildo will be a free agent so won’t cost much to bring to the club.

However, he is now 31 and could command significant wages, so they will have to be wary of taking on a potentially bad contract.

A one-year deal with the option for a second that’s dependent on remaining in the Premier League could be a sensible offer to mitigate that risk for both teams.

However, Reinildo has a lot of offers, and this approach strategy might not be as competitive as what Forest or clubs in Turkey or Saudi Arabia could offer.
