Sunderland have officially agreed a loan deal to sign Spanish striker Marc Guiu from Chelsea for the 2025-26 season, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Guiu, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona, has had limited opportunities with the club. Most of his game time was in the Europa Conference League last season.
He scored six goals in nine matches in the competition as Chelsea became the first team to win every major European trophy available following their 4-1 demolition of Real Betis in the final.
The arrivals of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro have further dampened Guiu’s chances of regular football next season, and it is no surprise he has decided to leave Stamford Bridge, albeit temporarily.
Guiu was wanted by both Ipswich Town and Sunderland, whose Premier League status ultimately proved to be decisive.
The Black Cats will cover the entirety of Guiu’s wages for the duration of his loan spell, and the deal comes without any buy option or buy-back clauses.
Sunderland have been active in the transfer market since securing promotion from the Championship, bringing in several new signings including Granit Xhaka.
Guiu’s impending arrival is expected to add a fresh attacking dimension with his relentless energy and provide depth up front.
Having agreed terms for Guiu’s exit, Chelsea will now turn their attention to other outgoings, with Raheem Sterling, Armando Broja and Christopher Nkunku expected to leave.
