Two Premier League sides have been keeping close tabs on one Sunderland star this season
Ex-scout Mick Brown has claimed that both Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace are keeping tabs on Sunderland star Jobe Bellingham.
The midfielder has been a standout figure for the Black Cats since joining the club from Birmingham City in the summer of 2023.
The 19-year-old has become a key part of Régis Le Bris’ side as the team chases automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Bellingham has contributed four goals and three assists from 28 appearances in the Championship so far this season.
Brown has claimed that both Spurs and Palace have been scouting Bellingham throughout the campaign, with a view to a summer move.
He has predicted that the player’s future will hinge on their promotion challenge, but that it will take a massive offer to convince Sunderland to cash in this summer.
“I think Sunderland would let him go if they got a good price for him,” said Brown, via Football Insider.
“Especially if they don’t get promoted this season, they’re going to listen to offers.
“It feels to me like they’re short of a couple of real top-class players.
“You’ve got the goalkeeper who’s not bad, he’s promising, then you get Rigg who’s the same.
“Then you’ve got Bellingham, and there have been questions about whether he’s good enough to make that step up at this point.
“Crystal Palace and Tottenham have had scouts watching him this season so they’ll be two of the teams in the running if he is going to leave.
“So it’ll be up to them to assess whether he’s ready to make that jump.
“From a Sunderland point of view, knowing the way the owners want to operate, I think if they get a huge bid for him then they’ll let him go.“
Bellingham signed for Sunderland from Birmingham in a deal worth around £3 million, via the Daily Mail.
The Black Cats are currently fourth in the Championship table, seven points behind second place Leeds United.
Le Bris’ side take on the Whites this evening in an 8pm kick-off at Elland Road.
Bellingham has attracted a lot of attention since he first burst onto the scene a couple of years ago, and the move to Sunderland has seen a lot of top clubs keep tabs on his progress.
The Black Cats will struggle to keep hold of him in the summer, even if they are promoted to the Premier League.
So, if they remain a Championship side then his departure will be inevitable.
A fee in the region of £25 to 30 million could be realistic at this stage, but his sale could be worth potentially even more than that, as Sunderland have proven tough negotiators in the past.
