The first match with head coach Markus Högner on the sidelines developed into a fast-paced and intense match with chances at both ends at the training ground in Dortmund-Brackel. The first big opportunity for the Black & Yellows to take the lead fell to Dana Marquardt in the 24th minute. Her powerful shot thundered against the crossbar and rebounded onto the pitch.
The visitors from Heerenveen also looked dangerous going forward and registered two promising shooting opportunities in the 36th and 38th minutes, narrowly missing the target on both occasions. Only minutes later, the Black & Yellows struck. Following a precise pass from Jasmin Jabbes, new signing Rita Schumacher stayed ice cool and slotted home to make it 1-0 in the 39th minute – her first goal in a BVB shirt.
After the interval, Högner rang the changes and sent a young team onto the pitch. Little changed in terms of the pace of the game: the match remained intense, with lots of commitment on both sides. But then the net rippled again in the 50th minute. Following strong build-up play from Nora Willeke, Lucy Wisniewski scored and doubled the lead to 2-0. The BVB women continued to dictate proceedings and created further chances, albeit without adding further goals.
Högner made a change in the goalkeeper position in the 75th minute, with Van der Laan making way for Deniese Lichatschow. As the game neared its conclusion, SC Heerenveen pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 in the 84th minute. But the Dortmund ladies comfortably saw the victory over the line.
After getting off to a successful start, the Borussia women will now turn their attentions to the next friendly: they will take on Hertha BSC as part of the Regionalliga outfit's season opening ceremony on Sunday (20/07, 11:00 CEST).
