However, according to The Northern Echo, the London club will be unable to match his current wage package at the Magpies, which could prove to be a stumbling block in negotiations.

Hayden spent the second half of last season on loan at Loftus Road, where he helped the R's stave off relegation to League One.

The 29-year-old made 17 appearances in the Championship for Martí Cifuentes’ side as they finished 18th in the standings under the Spaniard.

However, he has since returned to St. James’ Park, where he still has two years remaining on his current contract.

Hayden has been with Newcastle since 2016, making the switch from Arsenal, but has struggled for game time in recent seasons.

He has fallen down the pecking order of Eddie Howe’s squad, and is now deemed surplus to requirements as they look to consolidate themselves in European competition.

This could open the door for a permanent move to QPR, but his wages are currently expected to be a stumbling block in any deal.

It has previously been reported that Newcastle were weighing up the termination of his contract, which could help the London club with the finances of the deal, as it would mean no transfer fee was needed.

It was claimed that the midfielder is keen on a move back to Loftus Road, where he proved an important part of Cifuentes’ first team squad.

But no agreement has yet been reached on potential personal terms, which will be needed to get any transfer over the line.

Hayden has previously spent time on loan with Standard Liege and Norwich City prior to his January move to QPR.

He made just 10 appearances in the Belgian Pro League in the first half of the campaign, which prompted the switch back to English football in the new year.

QPR’s summer transfer business

QPR have already made a number of signings this summer, including Paul Nardi arriving as a free agent after his departure from Gent.

The 30-year-old will be Asmir Begovic’s replacement following the Bosnian’s departure after just one season with the club.

Hevertton and Liam Morrison have also both joined QPR, as they look to build a team capable of competing in the top half of the Championship table next season.

The Hoops have until 30 August to complete any remaining transfer business before the window shuts for the year.

Potential QPR, Isaac Hayden deal needs to be a calculated one

If Hayden is going to sign for QPR on a permanent basis, then the club must weigh up the total financial cost before agreeing to the move.

Newcastle terminating his contract, effectively waiving a transfer fee, would be a good start as that could save the club a lot of money.

But he will also likely have to accept a decent pay-cut to his wages too, as QPR should not be blowing up their salary structure to bring him in.

Hayden is a solid midfielder, with a lot of Premier League experience to his name, but he is also not worth taking on a huge cost, as he is also now 29.
