Rangers’ humiliating defeat to Club Brugge has heaped yet more pressure on Russell Martin, and already the bookmakers are circling with their lists of potential replacements. The Champions League qualifier collapse has done nothing to strengthen Martin’s standing among supporters, and speculation has quickly turned to who could be next in line for the Ibrox hot seat.

Names

As always when the Rangers job comes under threat, some familiar names have immediately shot to the forefront. One in particular, with history at the club and a major piece of silverware already under his belt, has emerged as the bookmakers’ early frontrunner. But he is not alone in the mix. A club legend, a highly-rated former Championship manager and even one or two blockbuster outsiders are all being linked with the role should the current manager’s time run out.

The odds reflect both the seriousness of Martin’s situation and the weight of expectation at Rangers. Supporters may differ on who they want in charge, but the growing list of names shows the scale of interest in the post. With pressure mounting by the day, attention has firmly shifted to who could be trusted to lead Rangers forward.

  • Steven Gerrard is the 9/4 favourite to replace Russell Martin and make a return to Ibrox with Barry Ferguson following closely behind at 7/2
  • Former Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl is also in the mix at 4/1 to take the Rangers hot seat
  • Outsiders for the job include Jose Mourinho (20/1), Steven Davies (25/1) and Ange Postecoglou (50/1)
