Manchester City’s second-choice goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno has issued an uncertain response to questions over his future at the Etihad Stadium.
The latest comments come amid a summer transfer window that has brought about uncertainty and confirmed movement concerning all three of Manchester City’s first-team shot-stoppers.
The first movement to take place was the expiry of Scott Carson’s contract and his exit from the Etihad Stadium after six seasons with the club, replaced by Chelsea’s Marcus Bettinelli for a ‘nominal’ fee.
Then came talk over Ederson and Stefan Ortega Moreno, with the former having now come out publicly and exclaimed his firm desire to remain a part of Manchester City’s squad for the forthcoming season.
Ederson’s discussion with reporters followed long-standing speculation over whether Saudi Arabia could be his next destination, while uncertainty over his back-up in Ortega Moreno comes as he holds a firm desire to establish himself as a first-choice.
Speaking to reporters from the FIFA Club World Cup this summer, Stefan Ortega Moreno was quizzed on his own future as he enters into the final year of contract at the Etihad and holds ambitions of holding down a number one role with a club.
“It’s quite early for that question, I can’t say anything about that, it’s too early,” the Germany international insisted in direct response on his future.
The 32-year-old failure to firmly commit himself to Manchester City for the upcoming European campaign may spark interest from a number of clubs throughout the game believing that he could be lured away from Pep Guardiola’s side.
Among the clubs to have previously been linked with a move for the player are Nottingham Forest and Bayer Leverkusen, however both sides have seemingly moved on from their interest which was most prominent during the last campaign.
Should Ortega Moreno decide to move on for an enticing opportunity this summer, then City would be highly likely to go in search of a new back-up option, with some supporters highlighting the profile of former Academy starlet and now-Burnley mainstay, James Trafford.
