S.S. Lazio have not given up on the chase for Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood and contact is due in the next two days between the two clubs.

Since the decision was made by United to part ways with Greenwood despite charges being dropped against the forward in February 2023, numerous teams have clambered for his signature.

Getafe fought off Lazio in August last year and the Bradford born forward completed a successful loan season in Spain.

Nonetheless, Getafe cannot afford what United are asking for and this had led to an avalanche of interest from other clubs like Juventus, Marseille and Lazio.

The Rome-based club have reportedly already sent emissaries to Old Trafford to do a deal with United and have already seen a bid knocked back.

However, Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport report that the 22 year old is still Lazio’s “biggest transfer desire.”

It is claimed that Lazio president Claudio Lotito won’t give up on Greenwood despite Juventus’ advances for the player and an “offer of €20 million plus a 50% resale percentage” not being enough to convince United, who want around €35 million for their academy product.

“New contacts are expected in the next two days with the English” over Greenwood and United are reportedly in no rush to sell that that the financial deadline of the 30th of June has now been and gone, CdS claim.

Nonetheless, it is still clear that the player will leave Old Trafford, giving Lazio hope there is a deal to be struck.

Lotito beleives that in spite of Greenwood’s attraction to Juventus and Atletico Madrid, he will be able to convince him once again that his future would be better off in the Eternal City.

The paper asks whether the attacker might remember that Lazio were the first side to give him an option last summer before the deal with United collapsed, allowing Getafe to sneak in. This is clearly something that Lazio are banking on to convince the player.

“Lotito offers him a place of honour in Lazio which he will try to flourish again and which desperately needs heroes. Lotito also needs it.”

The report acknowledges that Juventus will have to be distracted or discouraged in some way from their pursuit, given that they have signalled their intention to bid up to €40 million for the player.

Ironically, that distraction could come in the shape of another United star, Jadon Sancho, who has also been heavily linked with the Turin outfit.
