Updates on Mason Greenwood’s future have been coming out thick and fast over the past 24 hours, although they are not all in agreement about what is happening.

What is probably true is that Lazio have made a €20 million bid for the Manchester United star, with the promise of a 40-50% sell-on clause, meaning that United would be entitled to half of any future resale income.

However, the Red Devils want around €35 million in cash as they seek to raise funds to kickstart their own summer recruitment.

Earlier this morning it was reported by tier one reporter Gianluca di Marzio that Olympique de Marseille have already offered more than Lazio and are “confident” of securing a deal.

But it has also been claimed that Greenwood wants Lazio and that he sees his future in Serie A.

Now another Italian heavyweight reporter, Alfredo Pedulla, has added his version of events, claiming that Lazio are willing to up their offer to €25 million and this “would be accompanied by a percentage of possible resale between 40 and 50 percent.”

He also claims that the City Group have made a €15 million bid for the player Greenwood could replace in Rome, Taty Castellanos, probably on behalf of Girona.

If that deal goes through, Manchester City’s owners could indirectly line United’s pockets by giving Lazio the funds to push higher for the 22 year old.

Pedulla says that “Lazio will do everything to get” Greenwood and that there was “direct contact” yesterday.

He also confirms previous reports that “the offensive winger likes the transfer to Rome and has said yes to Lazio.”

Lurking in the background of all this are Juventus, who are also very keen on the Bradford-born man and could be willing to bid up to United’s full asking price.

However, that situation is complicated by their interest in another United star, Jadon Sancho, and their need to sell players, probably Federico Chiesa, before they can move on Greenwood.

The Old Lady have reportedly offered Chiesa in exchange for both Sancho and Greenwood, but so far there has been no sign of United interest in the Italian international.

The Red Devils are reportedly keen to get something on Greenwood wrapped up quickly so that he does not have to be included in pre-season training, which starts next week. However, if they want to extract full value for him, it would seem that they would be much better off playing a waiting game as the various elements resolve themselves.
