As per a report from media publication CaughtOffside, Spurs are weighing up a move for Borussia Dortmund forward Donyell Malen, who is expected to leave the German side this month - with fellow Premier League side Aston Villa trying to secure his signature.

Tottenham considering a move for versatile Dutch forward

Later on in the report, they state that Spurs are also considering advancing a potential deal for Johnny Cardoso this month, as well as looking at Italian midfielders Davide Frattesi and Nicolo Fagioli.

Going back to Malen, the Dutchman is a versatile forward, whom has played in all three positions across the front line in his career so far. This marries up with suggestions that Spurs are looking for a versatile forward, with players of a similar ilk such as Randal Kolo Muani also of interest to the club this month.

In general, Malen plays off the right more than up front or off the left. He is a very quick forward, who likes to run in behind and stretch defences. He was part of the Netherlands' Euro 2024 squad, as well as Spurs central defender Micky van de Ven. There is little doubt that Malen is a very quick player, so that definitely makes for good races in training.

So far in the Bundesliga, the Dutch forward has started just six games, though has scored three goals in that time - whilst coming off the bench a further eight times. He has played 41 times for the national team, scoring nine goals in the process.

One thing worth noting regarding the 25-year old, however - is he is not a 1v1 player. This is backed up by his numbers so far this campaign, where he has completed 0.8 dribbles per game. In terms of play style, he seems quite similar to Brennan Johnson - so is it worth pursuing? Fans have been crying out for ages for Spurs to sign a winger with 1v1 threat, to help open up defences. They would not be getting that with Malen.

It should be said that the player's versatility does mean it is not simply adding another Johnson type, with Spurs desperately needing someone who can play up front in any potential absence of Dominic Solanke. Still, it does feel like they could do a bit better than Malen, even though he is a solid player with some useful attributes in certain games.
