Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou says his side’s game against Bournemouth on 9 March is a likely return date for duo Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

Romero has been missing since the defeat to Chelsea in December while Van de Ven has played just once since that game, the Europa League win over Elfsborg in January.

Postecoglou said the club were working with Van de Ven to ensure he could stay fit once he returns following persistent hamstring injuries.

The Spurs boss had highlighted the first Europa League round of 16 game against AZ Alkmaar on 6 March as a possible return date for the pair.

And while he still says there is an “outside chance” of that happening, he revealed the game after that is more likely.

“First European game, probably outside chance for either of them but certainly they’ll be back training fully by then,” he said.

“Then we’ve got Bournemouth on the weekend and I reckon much better odds for that.

“Definitely by the second European game they should all be available to play. Dom (Solanke), we’ve got to be careful because he’s ahead of schedule so we need to pull in the reins a bit on him.

“But certainly with Romero and Van de Ven, that’s the plan at this stage.”

Solanke and Richarlison have also been absent of late and Postecoglou is targeting a similar timeframe for their return.

Postecoglou will still be without Ben Davies for the game against Manchester City on Wednesday due to a knock but it is not expected to keep him out for a while.

“This is a key period and I want as many players in the best possible condition and after this game we have a seven-day break which leads into Europe, league, Europe, league and those games are massive for us,” Postecoglou said when asked about Davies’ injury.

“I don’t see need to push. He hasn’t re-injured. He’s just been carrying something that I don’t want to push at the moment.”
