In a big boost all round, Spurs have been handed some good news, at last, by the return of Richarlison and Mikey Moore to first team training ahead of the Carabao Cup semi final first leg, at home to Liverpool on Wednesday night.
There has been a clear over reliance on Heung-Min Son and Dominic Solanke to play such a high portion of minutes. Understandably, with his age, the skipper has not coped as well as Solanke with this on the pitch, seeing his performances dip as a result.
Tottenham’s centre-forward has already played over 2,000 minutes this season, and consistently plays 90 minutes a game. This is the first season of his career playing two games a week with European midweeks. Due to early season injuries, Son hasn’t played quite as much, but at his age, the amount of minutes, as well as travelling — hasn’t been ideal.
The game against Tamworth on Sunday could be the perfect time to give Moore minutes and build up his sharpness ahead of the rest of the campaign. With Richarlison, it may have to be after that. Tamworth have a plastic pitch, which is far from ideal for someone with his injury record. That one feels like a game for Moore off the left, and Will Lankshear up front.
Having these two as depth will be really huge. If they bring in Randal Kolo Muani, who has been heavily linked — that would give those three as options, to go along with Son, Solanke, and Brennan Johnson. There are so many games left this season, even in January alone. The whole squad is going to be massively needed. Every player is going to get their fair share of opportunities to play.
Another boost is that new signing, Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague, has also trained with the first team, and his work permit has been cleared — meaning he is eligible for the game on Wednesday night, should Ange choose to go with him in goal over Brandon Austin — or Fraser Forster, if he has recovered from his illness.
