Ange Postecoglou insists Tottenham Hotspur will try to beat Manchester City and finish the season strongly despite the implications for Arsenal’s title challenge.

With a week left in the Premier League season, Arsenal sit second in the table, two points behind Manchester City.

The Gunners can temporarily take top spot with a win over Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, but even if they do, Manchester City would then have the chance to reclaim the lead against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.

With City facing a relatively weak West Ham United side on the final day, and with their strong record of final day wins, Tuesday might be their last realistic chance to drop points.

Yet they’re facing Arsenal’s bitter rivals, who may not have anything to play for by the time Tuesday comes around. Even so, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou says his team will give it a go in midweek.

“We’ve still got six points to play for,” Postecoglou said. “That’s the key thing for us.

“There’s a big game for us on Tuesday night against City and it will be a great test for us and the Sheffield United one.

“I think we’ve got what it takes to make a game of it (against City) and play our football and see where that takes us.

“It’s at our place, it’s 95 minutes of football and we’re going to have a crack.”

Ahead of the Burnley game at the weekend, Postecoglou had insisted that Spurs would try to finish the campaign with three wins.

“I want us to finish the season strong,” Postecoglou said. “I want us to try and win three games of football and see where that takes us.

“I don’t give up and I’d be surprised if anyone in my position at this level will go in with anything other than 100 per cent commitment to fight for everything because if you don’t, invariably you fail.”

Aston Villa’s game against Liverpool on Monday could prove pivotal, with a win for Jurgen Klopp’s side making Champions League football a realistic prospect for Spurs, but a win for Villa making it an impossibility.
