SPL debuts Legends Week | OneFootball

Matchweeks 16 and 17 of the Roshn Saudi League will see clubs participate in the inaugural SPL Legends Week.

The initiative, launched by the Saudi Pro League (SPL), celebrates iconic players in the history of the league, with objectives including bridging the gap between generations of supporters and strengthening club affiliation across the competition.

Clubs throughout the league will use the opportunity to honour players and coaches who have contributed to their success during the years and engage fans in a nationwide celebration of Saudi Arabia’s footballing legacy.

In turn, SPL is set to produce engaging content across its platforms showcasing local, regional and international talents who have lit up the league throughout its history.

Matchweek 16 kicks off on Monday at 6:10pm local time with Al Fayha hosting Al Kholood in a crucial encounter in the race for survival, with the pick of the midweek games pitting second-placed Al Ittihad against sixth-placed Al Shabab. There, Abderrazak Hamdallah will face his former club as he pursues the RSL’s all-time top scorer accolade. The Moroccan, a three-time RSL golden boot winner, sits second, 10 goals behind Omar Al Somah.

Legends Week action continues with Matchweek 17 on Saturday and through until Monday, January 27, when leaders Al Hilal travel to the East Coast to face third-placed Al Qadsiah.

Earlier this season, the SPL launched the inaugural Derby Week, attracting record engagement with the three-day football festival that saw derbies contested across the country on Matchweek 9. The second iteration of Derby Week, featuring the Sea Derby, Capital Derby and Eastern Derby, takes place on Matchweek 26.
