When Real Madrid were in dire need of a saviour, Joselu stepped up to the occasion with a game-defining cameo against Bayern Munich.

With his team down by one goal with just two minutes to go, the veteran striker found the back of the net twice in three minutes to turn the tie around and secure a place in the finale of the UEFA Champions League.

His showing midweek, however, was only a true reflection of the season he has enjoyed to this point. With his loan running out next month, moreover, Los Blancos are pressed to take a binding decision on his future.

Joselu will stay

As revealed in a recent update by Jose Luis Sanchez, Joselu is close to staying at Real Madrid. It is, however, unclear whether he will continue on loan or with a permanent transfer.

Los Blancos purchased the player on a season-long loan deal last summer for a fee of around €500,000. They have an option to make his signing permanent for just €1.5 million next month and it remains to be seen if that is the approach the administration plans on.

After all, it was revealed only earlier this week that Real Madrid were planning to offer Joselu a one-year extension which points more towards a loan extension.

Loved by all

Despite not being a regular starter for the men in white, the veteran striker has made minimal fuss over his situation at the club and is an example of how to make the most of one’s opportunities.

His clarity over his role in the team has made Carlo Ancelotti’s work easier, and it is safe to say that Joselu has delivered beyond expectations with 11 goal contributions in La Liga and a further five in the UEFA Champions League.

The Spaniard is adored in the dressing room, by both players and the management alike and his good numbers only fuel the reasons Real Madrid have to renew his deal. Progress can be expected in the coming weeks.
