Albert Gronbaek's lineup start was Southampton's biggest positive from the Anfield Trip. Though fielded upfront, he delivered an all-round show, proving his mettle as the frontline leader ahead.
It's been merely 2 days since the Southampton vs Liverpool matchday, yet you would have heard all of the Saints' faults and flaws from the game. Correct, right?
But, you know what, we must praise the Saints players for their positives, given we don't go easy on their mistakes as fans.
Well, realizing this and still not appreciating Albert Gronbaek's Anfield display feels injustice.
Just imagine a 23-year-old prodigy, marking his second Premier League start in an unconventional role at Anfield. Seems enough pressurizing right? But not for Albert Gronbaek.
Despite operating as a center-forward, the Dane hardly left any stone unturned against Liverpool. Be it orchestrating chances, making clever runs, or providing a helping cover in the defense, Gronbaek perfectly passed his biggest Southampton test with flying colors.
Safe to say, with this versatile display, Gronbaek surely reminded the Saints fans of Matt Le Tissier's comments.
Looks like the 23-year-old's display entertained everyone, right? Well, honestly, it did, but in terms of satisfaction, one Southampton figure wouldn’t be at ease after this Anfield spectacle.
It's easy to guess, he's none other than Saints forward Paul Onuachu.
To note, the last month has been turbulent for Onuachu. Having seen his inaugural purple patch for Southampton just weeks before, the Nigerian again finds himself down Juric's pecking order.
And if there's anything this Gronbaek show has done, is to push his candidature further ahead from Juric's radar.
Know what it has done further? Given a food of thought to boss Ivan Juric.
Interestingly, while earlier two names in Archer and Onuachu competed for a start up-front, now it's three with Gronbaek being the recent addition.
Now, definitely, all three being brilliant players, a decision for Juric won't be easy. Still, it can't be denied that Gronbaek is certain to be favored at least in the next few games.
Well, in all, the forward role race has quite intensified following this Liverpool matchday. Let's hope it benefits the Saints ahead.
