Southampton continue their Championship season with a trip to face Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Sunday.
Southampton arrive having secured a dramatic 2-1 turnaround against newly-promoted Wrexham at St Mary’s, overturning a first-half deficit with two late goals to claim victory. Head coach Will Still will demand consistency to avoid a replay of their early defensive lapses.
In midweek, Southampton maintained their winning start under Still. Progress in the Carabao Cup was secured with a 1-0 win at Northampton Town. Matheus Fernandes, subject of interest from West Ham, got the decisive goal.
Will Smallbone remains sidelined with a calf injury and will miss several weeks. James Bree is also out with a leg problem sustained during pre-season. Defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis is nearing match fitness after an ankle injury but Still confirmed he won’t be rushed back.
Goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu continues to recover from a meniscus injury. Tyler Dibling, Sam Edozie and Joe Aribo have been training separately as their futures remain uncertain with the transfer window still open. Flynn Downes is available after training all week following a minor issue.
Southampton predicted XI: Bazunu; Sugawara, Edwards, Stephens, Quarshie, Welington; Downes, Charles; Fraser, Robinson, Armstrong.
The match takes place at Portman Road on Sunday, 17 August 2025. Kick-off is at 12:00pm BST.
.The game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football in the UK. Overseas viewers can stream via their local rights holders or via EFL iFollow for £11.99.
