Southampton have reached an agreement with Middlesbrough to sign attacking midfielder Finn Azaz, according to Sky Sports.
The deal is worth around £12 million plus an additional £3m in performance-related add-ons.
The Saints have been keen to strengthen their attacking options as they aim for an immediate return to the Premier League.
The 24-year-old midfielder has started the new Championship season in fine form, bagging one goal and an assist in his first two matches for Middlesbrough.
Azaz is expected to undergo his medical within the next 24 hours as the move edges closer to completion.
Once confirmed, he will become one of Southampton’s most significant signings of the summer transfer window.
The Republic of Ireland international was a key figure for Middlesbrough last season, contributing 12 goals and 11 assists across all competitions.
Azaz primarily operates as an attacking midfielder but can also play in advanced roles when needed.
His style of play features sharp movement, quick link-up passes, and an ability to unlock defensive lines.
He often receives the ball between the lines, drifts inside from wide areas, and looks to create opportunities through inventive passes.
This creativity and confidence in possession have made him one of the most influential players in the Championship over the last year.
Southampton will hope his arrival brings more attacking balance as they push for promotion back to the top flight.
