French club Strasbourg has agreed a loan deal for 18-year-old prodigy Sam Amo-Ameyaw. But, wait, did the Saints actually set the buy-clause for him at just €7m?
It might be early to say, but you would admit that Southampton's fate had improved lately.
After a string of helpless defeats, the Saints registered their first win under boss Juric. Not only that, they had been closing on an impressive winter transfer window.
But, while all seemed going well, have the Saints goofed up again?
Remember Tyler Dibling's prodigy teammate Sam Amo-Ameyaw. Now if you are a Saints fan, you would be aware of talks regarding a potential loan departure for Amo-Ameyaw.
Having gotten rare opportunities in the first team, Amo-Ameyaw had agreed to exit on loan weeks ago. Better late than never, Southampton had finally chosen an exciting opportunity for him at French club Strasbourg.
Journalist David Ornstein confirmed Amo-Ameyaw's move, saying: "Strasbourg reach agreement with Southampton to sign top English talent Samuel Amo-Ameyaw. Deal for 18yo Southampton winger loan + obligation to buy at €7m total package on 5yr contract. Medical done; parties working to complete"
Certainly, a fresh start to Amo-Ameyaw excites Southampton fans, who would be willing to see him return improved. Still, there may be a scenario in which the prodigy might never return.
As it appears, in a hurry to loan him amidst the approaching deadline, the Saints have made a huge blunder.
A mere look at the transfer details shows the mistake. At the end of the loan, Southampton has just put a buy clause of €7m to Strasbourg for Amo-Ameyaw.
While a €7m clause isn't bad, still it feels insufficient for Amo-Ameyaw, who has enormous potential like Tyler Dibling. Who knows, had he been trusted like Dibling, he might have been the most demanded English prodigy currently.
