No matter how their first team performs, Southampton's academy never lets them down. Now, it's brought another talent who after blistering U21 displays, knocks on the door of the senior team.
Just a reminder that we have entered the last quarter of the 2024/25 season. With around just 10 Premier League matchdays left, we are in the final stretch of the campaign.
Well, it feels like a good time to reflect upon Southampton's positives in an otherwise monotonous run. Agreed right?
If you ask me, the best thing the club did was trusting their brilliant academy again. And it's result? Players like Tyler Dibling and Sam Amo-Ameyaw emerged on the big stage.
In particular, Dibling's rise has been just phenomenal. Being still a teenager, he has become the brightest English prodigy currently. Just the regret remains that he will leave the club this summer.
But no worries, as the Saints' academy has got the first team covered. How? The talent factory is ready with another star, who in every way, feels Dibling 2.0.
It's 17-year-old center-forward Jay Robinson. Currently playing in the U21s, Robinson has been scoring for fun all this while. Just yesterday, netting a brace, he helped Southampton U21 win comfortably over Wolves.
Now you may think, being a rising prospect, he should merge slowly into the first-team plans. But, that's the mistake, Southampton needs to be aware of.
Given the club's situation, their relegation seems certain, as they will be forced to play in the Championship next. So, why not test Robinson then and there? I'll provide two reasons why this is a brilliant option.
Firstly, with him blistering in the U21s, the Championship is the perfect transition a youngster wants before a Top Flight challenge. Further, now that he is in red-hot form and the situation is aligning, a delay in the player's first-team integration wouldn't make sense.
Concisely, Southampton's academy has teed up another star Jay Robinson for their first team. Hoping the Saints use the talent wisely.
