The Seagulls haven't been afraid to recruit players from the EFL before, with a few of their players making the move from the Championship to the Amex Stadium.

Joao Pedro and Georginio Rutter are two of those players who have been able to make the step up, with the latter securing a switch from Leeds United during the previous window.

Bassette, 20, is the latest player on their radar, having shown some promise during the early stages of his time at the Coventry Building Society Arena despite not being able to get himself on the scoresheet regularly.

He has even managed to start the past couple of games under Frank Lampard, coming in at the expense of Ellis Simms, who has been benched by the young forward.

With Haji Wright also out of action, Bassette could have a real opportunity to impress for the Sky Blues and establish himself as one to watch for the January transfer window.

FLW understands Brighton have taken an interest in the Belgian forward, just months after he arrived in the Midlands.

However, there's no suggestion at this stage that the Seagulls will make a move for the 20-year-old during the upcoming window, which may allow the Sky Blues to breathe a sigh of relief for now.

But Fabian Hurzeler's side aren't the only team keen on Bassette.

As the Daily Mail first reported last month, FLW believes Newcastle United have also taken an interest in the player, which could make the January window an interesting one for the Sky Blues' starlet.

Bassette's contract at the CBS Arena doesn't expire until the summer of 2028, which puts Lampard's side in a strong negotiating position ahead of next month.

Considering the player has only spent around four months at the club, the Sky Blues will probably be reluctant to let him go.

He is also becoming a vital part of the team, which could make it difficult for the Seagulls and the Magpies to secure an agreement.

The player may also benefit from staying put for now, having started under Lampard in recent games.
