The Alexander Isak-to-Liverpool saga continues to build momentum, with respected Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie adding fuel to an already roaring fire. Speaking via his personal YouTube channel, Downie confidently claimed:
“As you all know, his head’s been turned. I fully expect if Liverpool come to the table and offer a big offer, that deal will get done.”
Isak’s recent decision to stay away from Newcastle United’s pre-season tour in the Far East is telling. Instead, he’s been training individually at Real Sociedad, the club he left for Tyneside. Downie notes that Newcastle are fully aware of this situation, which hints at a wider understanding between player and club that change may be on the horizon.
With Isak’s head turned and Newcastle valuing the Swedish forward at £150m, Downie believes there’s flexibility on both sides.
“As you all know, his head’s been turned. I fully expect if Liverpool come to the table and offer a big offer, that deal will get done. It’s just whether Liverpool can come up with the funds or not.”
“I think they’ll end up doing a deal for around about £135m, something like that, which still smashes the Premier League record.”
Liverpool, fresh off Premier League triumph under Arne Slot, have already demonstrated their intent this summer, spending over £250m on fresh reinforcements. But landing Isak would be their defining act of the window.
The recent £65.5m sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich eases the financial stretch, and while a defender remains a logical priority, few could deny the transformative effect a striker like Isak could have on this Liverpool side.
While Liverpool have yet to table a formal bid, Downie’s words suggest that internal discussions are well underway.
“What’s the point in having a player who’s unsettled, who’s unhappy, who’s maybe causing some problems?… once a player’s head is turned, it’s hard to get them on it.”

That reality may force Newcastle into pragmatic action. Holding on to a disillusioned star rarely ends well, and Newcastle will be mindful of maintaining dressing-room harmony under Eddie Howe.
There are still hurdles to overcome. Newcastle’s firm valuation, Liverpool’s wage structure and the overall optics of the deal remain potential sticking points. However, there is growing belief that this is not just a rumour, but a deal that’s there to be done.
Credit must go to Keith Downie for his measured but encouraging insight, offering clarity at a time when speculation is rife. If Liverpool act decisively, they may well welcome Isak to Anfield in a matter of weeks.
There’s something poetic about the idea of Alexander Isak joining Liverpool in the same summer the club begins a new chapter under Arne Slot. The tragic loss of Diogo Jota left a deep scar in the hearts of Liverpool fans, and while no player can replace him emotionally, Isak could offer a footballing response to that loss with flair, finesse and goals.
Supporters are understandably desperate to see an elite striker arrive. Darwin Núñez has been inconsistent despite his work rate and promise. Isak would offer a different dynamic — calm under pressure, elegant in movement and ruthless in front of goal. At 25, he fits the age profile of a long-term spearhead for this team.
The financial aspect of the move cannot be ignored. But after watching the club lift the Premier League under Slot in his first season, fans are dreaming big again. Spending over £130m on one player feels outrageous, but also symbolic of where Liverpool are now: not just title winners, but standard-setters.
Slot’s vision appears bolder and more attacking. A frontline of Salah, Isak and Gakpo or Núñez is a terrifying proposition for any defence. If the club makes this happen, it would not just be a statement signing — it would be an emotional one too, showing ambition and the willingness to compete at the very highest level.
