Jadon Sancho’s move to AS Roma has reportedly reached an impasse, with the club now opting to pursue an alternative target.

Indeed, Sky Sports’ Gianluca Di Marzio confirmed late on Tuesday evening that the Manchester United outcast’s prospective switch to Roma was heading towards a ‘definitive no’.

As a result, INEOS are now back at square one with offloading the exiled Red.

They were hoping throughout last season that his loan at Stamford Bridge would culminate with Chelsea activating his £25 million buy obligation. However, they forked out a £5 million penalty to bypass the clause and send him back to Manchester.

Since then, Sancho has remained at Carrington with the rest of the wantaways, keeping up his fitness levels before completing what’s expected to be a permanent departure.

If worst comes to the worst, it’s been suggested United may even consider triggering the one-year option in his contract to keep him tied to the club until June 2027, as opposed to leaving for nothing this time next year.

Sancho has never made his mark at United

In his four years as a Red, the Englishman has recorded a measly 12 goals and six asissts in 83 appearances.

Sancho mustered five goals and 10 assists in the 41 matches he played in for Chelsea, as well as three goals and three assists in 21 outings for Borussia Dortmund when he returned in the second half of 2023/2024 for a second stint on loan.

His excessive wage demands have ruled a host of sides out of any pursuit for him, including Atletico Madird and Juventus, with his agents’ commission requests thought to have frigthened’ them off.
