There could be some good news in store for Manchester United in the coming days on the Casemiro front, with Roma reportedly interested in the midfielder.
The 32-year-old had cemented himself as arguably the best holding midfielder in the world during his illustrious spell at Real Madrid which yielded a host of trophies, including five Champions League triumphs.
However, the Brazilian hasn’t been the same beast since making the £60 million move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2022. While his initial showings were decent, it later became increasingly evident that his best days are well behind him, as he’s struggling to cope with the fast-paced nature of the Premier League.
Therefore, Ruben Amorim has now relegated the player to the bench, as he now finds himself at the very bottom of the pecking order, with the young Toby Collyer and fellow veteran Christian Eriksen ahead of him, in addition to regular starters Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo, thus prompting some observers to label him as a ‘disastrous flop’.
Hence, Man Utd have been desperate to offload Casemiro, especially given his astronomical salary. The Brazil international collects a whopping £350,000 per week, making him the club’s highest earner.

In recent weeks, the veteran has been linked with several destinations, including a reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr as well as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Besiktas.
But according to Sky Sport Italia, Roma have now emerged as a new candidate in the race, having contacted Man Utd to ask for information regarding the unwanted star.
As the source explains, the Italian capital side could part ways with Leandro Paredes who is considering a return to Argentina through the gates of Boca Juniors in the coming days. Hence, the Giallorossi are searching the market for a replacement as they don’t want to be caught off guard.
Nevertheless, Roma would likely seek a formula where United would have to contribute with a significant chunk of the player’s hefty salary, as they certainly cannot cover it on their own.
