Manchester United reportedly have a transfer budget of a mere £50 million and are desperately trying to move on several first-team players to bump up their budget before embarking on their planned recruitment spree.
The summer clearout includes high-profile stars such as Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho with the former Manchester City academy product attracting plenty of interest but nobody has come up with a satisfactory bid so far.
Borussia Dortmund have been keen to retain him but do not have the finances to match United’s asking price while Juventus and Barcelona are eyeing another loan move, something United are dead against.
The England international is unlikely to return to Old Trafford now that Erik ten Hag is set to remain at the helm after the pair had a major falling-out last season and United must try and agree a sale this window.
Multiple clubs are aware of United’s need to sell and are hell-bent on playing the waiting game and waiting to pounce when United either agree to a discounted sale or another temporary arrangement.
INEOS are growing desperate and according to Teamtalk, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has invited United’s fierce rivals — Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal to bid for the 24-year-old.
United are reportedly asking for only £40 million and are even open to a loan deal with an obligation to buy for the mentioned price or for realistic add-ons to be included to take the final price up to the quoted value.
“Manchester United are so desperate to offload Jadon Sancho this summer that they have invited strong rivals Chelsea and Arsenal to make a move, TEAMtalk can confirm – but Manchester City have also been contacted over the prospect of a sensational reunion and with Sir Jim Ratcliffe naming a new lowball price.
“Sources have indicated to TEAMtalk that the teams in question have been told United would like a package worth £40m for the winger.
“They would ideally like to sell him this summer, but could accept a loan with an obligation to buy for next summer, while could even consider a structured deal that would see the figure achieved by way of a number of plausible bonuses and add-ons.
“And we have been told that representatives of United have offered Sancho to Chelsea, with officials making it clear of the price they would like to fetch. They are far from the only team being offered a chance at his signing, though, with Barcelona and Arsenal contacted too.
“However, the most extraordinary move has seen United offer arch-rivals Manchester City the chance of a reunion with the winger, who walked out on Pep Guardiola back in summer 2017 for a fee of just £8m.”
United would basically agree to take a huge hit on their initial investment of £73 million back in 2021 if there is any truth to the report.
Also, Pep Guardiola, who is as much a stickler for discipline as Ten Hag, is unlikely to bring back a player whose attitude issues were raised during his time in the City academy as well.
As things stand, none of the Premier League teams are likely to put their name in the hat for Sancho, who is among the highest earners at Old Trafford. This is a huge blow for INEOS who might be forced into another loan deal for a problematic player who has underperformed majorly in red.
