Rob Holding is thought to be of interest to the Blades, with a deal for Jimmy Dunne unlikely at this stage.
Sheffield United have now switched their attention to Crystal Palace centre-back Rob Holding ahead of Monday night's deadline.
This is according to The Sun, who have reported that the ex-Arsenal man is now on the Blades' radar after they failed to get a deal over the line for Queens Park Rangers centre-back Jimmy Dunne.
Holding, 29, has made just one appearance for Palace during his time at Selhurst Park, and has failed to play in any senior game so far this season.
With this in mind, a January move could be inevitable for the central defender, who could potentially take the step back down to the Championship to win more game time.
He previously competed at this level with Bolton Wanderers, who richly benefitted from having the defender at their disposal before selling him to the Gunners.
Things haven't exactly gone to plan for Holding in the past couple of years, but he's still a capable defender, and could have the opportunity to kickstart his career elsewhere before the window closes.
According to The Sun, United are interested in a loan move for Holding, though they aren't the only team in the mix for him at this stage.
Coventry City are also believed to be a fan of the Eagles defender, so Chris Wilder may have to battle Frank Lampard to get a deal for the centre-back over the line.
For the Blades, Holding is being viewed as an alternative to QPR star Dunne, who will cost them £3m to recruit, despite the fact he only has a matter of months left on his contract at Loftus Road.
This is likely to put off United, who have already spent a sizeable fee on Tom Cannon during this window.
Considering his age, Holding hasn't made that many senior appearances.
But he still has some decent experience under his belt from his time at the Emirates Stadium - and that experience could make him an asset at Bramall Lane.
He may need time to get back up to full fitness if he makes a loan move to South Yorkshire, but he would definitely be an asset when he manages to get up to speed.
