Sheffield United will be looking to bounce back in style in the upcoming Championship season following their disastrous Premier League campaign last time out. The Blades finished rock bottom of the top flight conceding a record breaking 104 goals in the process. The only positive to last term was that they managed to get more points than Derby County’s record low of 11 points back in 2007/08.

Chris Wilder has it all to do this summer; not only does he have to try and galvanise the squad following a crippling campaign, he has said goodbye to a number of significant figures in the Blades dressing room, and he will need to try and replace their experience in this summer’s transfer window.

Unfortunately though, Wilder’s hands are tied. It is being reported that Sheffield United cannot do any transfer business until the financial takeover has passed the EFL’s Fit and Proper process.

Even free transfers are becoming increasingly unlikely. Recent reports emerged that experienced Championship midfielder Alan Browne and versatile defender Gabriel Osho have both had negotiations stalled with the Blades because of the takeover.

This has been far from the ideal start to arguably the most important summer window’s in the club’s history. Sheffield United need to bring in at the very least 12 new players in order to bulk out their squad.

What’s even more worrying is that this number could increase if the current contract debacle does not get sorted with the likes of experienced players such as Ben Osborn, Oli McBurnie and Adam Davies. The proposed takeover has also stalled contract extension talks. Also, the Blades are facing the strong possibility of promising forward Daniel Jebbison leaving the club at the end of the month.

Although the Blades are struggling at the moment, once this takeover goes through Sheffield United Football Club will be flying. They already have plans in place to build a new state of the art training facility for the first team. While still keeping the famous Shirecliffe academy open. And with the prospect of new owners comes additional funding for transfers, something that the club has been calling out to have for the past three or four years.

In a few weeks time United will be in a very strong place and by the start of the season they should be in a really strong position. A strong bounce back season is expected, and Chris Wilder’s Blades will have Bramall Lane rocking.
