Matias Soulé made the most of a move inspired by substitute Paulo Dybala, as Roma squeezed another slender victory away to impressive Pisa.
The Giallorossi were still without Leon Bailey, while Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini were not fully fit after a 1-0 win over Bologna. Pisa celebrated their first Serie A home match in over 30 years, though Daniel Denoon, Alexander Lind, Isak Vural, Tomas Esteves and Francesco Coppola were still absent, with new buy Calvin Stengs on the bench after arriving from Feyenoord.
It was Pisa who had a huge opportunity on 8 minutes, as Idrissa Touré stood up a cross from the right for Henrik Meister’s header, but Mile Svilar got just enough on it, then scrambled to prevent it rolling over the line.
Moments later, Michel Aebischer sent Meister on the counter and his angled drive skimmed the far post.
Adrian Semper was ready for the Matias Soulé free kick at the near top corner, as Roma struggled to create genuine scoring opportunities.

Paulo Dybala came on for the second half and Soulé saw his left-foot curler skim the far top corner from the edge of the area.
Welsey went down too easily under pressure from Lusuardi, but Roma did find the breakthrough when their front three combined.
Dybala cut inside from the left, found Ferguson with his back to goal, who laid it off for Soulé to sweep in first time from 12 yards through a sea of legs.
Soulé had the ball in the net again on 61 minutes when his header hit the back of a defender and he reacted quickly to turn in the rebound, but he handled in the process, and it was disallowed.

Aebischer won a tackle in midfield and smashed the finish just over the bar, then fired off target again from M’Bala Nzola’s counter-attack.
Calvin Stengs made his Serie A debut in the final minutes, but was not ready for a Meister back-heel flick, then fired straight at Svilar.
Roma should’ve gone 2-0 up at the 90th minute when Manu Koné went on a strong run from midfield to set up the Artem Dovbyk tap-in, only to be denied by a desperate Adrian Semper save from point-blank range.
