Real Madrid have not historically been known to promote talents budding from the academy and it is understandable why young players prefer leaving the club in search of minutes at a higher level.

Alex Jimenez was one such young star who left Real Madrid Castilla for AC Milan, but Los Blancos still maintain some leverage over his future as they usually do in such deals.

The player’s growth this season, however, has the Serie A side worried and Matteo Moretto reveals that AC Milan are planning to renegotiate the terms of Real Madrid’s buy-back clause.

An affordable price

Jimenez did not have prominence in the Rossoneri first team initially when he joined the club on loan in the summer of 2023 and was even contemplating a move away from the club for action at the elite level.

Just when it seemed like he would leave after being suppressed to the subsidiary team, he was called up to the first team against Monza in December 2023 and made his debut for the club in January 2024.

While he featured only sporadically after that, the right-back did enough to convince Milan to make his signing permanent for €5 million. Jimenez has racked up nine Serie A appearances this season.

Real Madrid, as relayed earlier, have the option to buy Jimenez back in the summer of 2025 for just €9 million and in the summer of 2026 for €12 million. Needless to say, both are extremely affordable in today’s inflated transfer market.

AC Milan are planning to renegotiate the terms of Real Madrid’s buyback clause especially given how they have a contract in place with him until 2028. There could well be a small fee involved that the Italians pay the Merengues in exchange for the same.

For Real Madrid, it will boil down to how much they count on Jimenez as an option for their team for the future.

Given that they currently have two players in the right-back department and are pushing to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold, there is no pressing need to hold on to the player’s card.
