Serginho comments on ‘importance’ of playing for Milan and the season so far | OneFootball

This evening, at the Via Dante store, AC Milan revealed their 125th anniversary kit, and Serginho has commented on the kit as well as how the club have done so far this season.

It has been quite a bipolar season for Milan thus far. A 6-1 win against Sassuolo serves as the latest positive sign of the Rossoneri, sitting alongside wins against Real Madrid, Inter, and you could even argue Empoli from this weekend.

In recent weeks, the Diavolo have looked slightly more assured, and they still have the Scudetto in their sights, whilst also hoping for progression in the Champions League.

Understandably, it will still be some time before Milan fans are fully assured of this team, given how the season started, and has continued. However, Paulo Fonseca’s credentials are beginning to be revealed, and this can only be seen as a good thing.

Speaking at the 125th anniversary kit reveal, Serginho spoke to Milan News about several topics including the Rossoneri’s return to long sleeves.

Playing for Milan…

“Clearly being part of a club of Milan’s importance is important for every player. I was lucky enough to be part of a very successful team. Hopefully Milan can return to the top as soon as possible.”

What is your moment at Milan that has stayed in your heart the most?

“Definitely the first Champions League, it’s from the beginning that Berlusconi and Galliani had started with that project to return to being a winning team in Europe. So we created the right team for that Champions League and we were lucky enough to reach the final and win against a very important rival like Juve. And in the semi-final we beat Inter.

“I think this is the most beautiful chapter of my time at AC Milan.”

Milan will return to wearing a long-sleeved shirt. What is your memory in your heart with a shirt like that that is no longer used today?

“I hope it can bring good luck. I hope Milan can return to winning ways as soon as possible and be an important team. Over time football has changed in everything, not only in the way of playing but also in the clothing, the shoes.

“There has been an evolution, I think that going back a bit in history can help us to do well and return to winning ways.”

How do you see the current Milan of Fonseca?

“An AC Milan that has not yet found its balance. In the few games it has played it has not yet found balance, it has been up and down. It has had great games like the one in Madrid, immediately afterwards there was the draw in Cagliari.

“The team has yet to find its best moment. But it’s still very early, the coach has just arrived. I think that with the many signings Milan has made, a moment like this is normal.”

Where can Milan go this year?

“I hope all the way, as a big Milan fan I always try to see the positive. But we know that right now there are two-three teams ahead.”

The fans are divided on Emerson…

“Being a Brazilian full-back in Milan certainly brings you a lot of responsibility after the story we did with Cafù. He is a player who is still understanding Italian football, it will take time. I think he has the quality, he will find his balance, but we have to be patient.”
