Speaking to MilanTV after AC Milan’s convincing 3-0 win over Lecce, the pundit Luca Serafini reflected on the start of the season and how Paulo Fonseca went from zero to hero. Football is ‘really strange’, as he put it.

Milan managed to build on their 2-1 win in the derby against Inter, beating Lecce in front of a sold-out San Siro yesterday evening. Three goals were scored in just five minutes and there were several positive stats to take from the game.

After the game, speaking live on MilanTV (via MilanNews), the pundit Luca Serafini discussed the start of the season and the turnaround Milan have made. Football can be really strange sometimes, as he put it, which Fonseca certainly has proven.

“We got what were wanted, which was confirmation after the derby. Milan played patiently at the beginning, they started slowly. Then three goals arrived in five minutes. The most important thing is that we had confirmation of our attitude and way of playing. It’s a very demanding system, but I’m convinced that this team can do great things.

“First place in the standings? Football is really strange. Ten days ago the season was already over, far from the top, Inter could have run away and now, Milan are at the top of the standings instead. Maybe it will only be for one night, but the Rossoneri are still in the leading group,” he began.

However, Milan will be up against Bayer Leverkusen and since they have bounced back in the league, we now also need to see it in the Champions League. It will be far from an easy task, but there is light at the end of the tunnel as highlighted by Serafini.

“Now focus on Leverkusen, they are within reach of Milan. Then there will be Real Madrid, but after that the schedule will be downhill in the Champions League. The season has turned around,” he concluded.
