Manchester City could yet be faced by a transfer assault from Turkey concerning one of their first-team goalkeeping options this summer, it has emerged.
Ederson has so far maintained a public stance of loyalty to Manchester City, most notably during the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, where he dismissed widespread rumours of an impending departure.
At the time, he said, “My future is here. Some friends send me a lot of news but 99 per cent is fake.” The comments offered clarity and stability at a time of intense speculation, but the links to Turkish football have only intensified as the summer window has progressed.
City’s No. 1, who has won six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League among a long list of major honours during his time at the club, also found himself at the centre of fan-led campaigns online calling for change in goal earlier this summer.
Ederson’s wife, Lais Moraes, was at one stage forced to restrict comments on her social media platforms after the family was subjected to abuse. Despite that pressure, the goalkeeper remained a central figure in the eyes of Pep Guardiola and first-team coaching staff, and any movement this summer would represent a significant change for both player and club.
Napoli had attempted to bring Ederson to Serie A earlier in the summer, but those talks were quickly shut down due to the financial demands involved. That opened the door for Galatasaray, who reportedly agreed personal terms with the 31-year-old, but that interest may no longer be exclusive, with Istanbul now home to a potential bidding war.
According to the information of ‘GalaHaberNet‘ on X across the weekend, Fenerbahçe are now also preparing to make an offer to Manchester City for the club’s first-team mainstay goalkeeper.
While no concrete figures have yet been proposed by the Fenerbahçe camp, the move underlines just how much esteem Ederson is held in across Europe, and how much influence Turkish clubs are hoping to assert in the market this summer.
Fenerbahçe’s ambition has been demonstrated already through marquee additions in recent windows, and a swoop for Ederson would represent a powerful signal of their intent to reclaim domestic dominance and make a mark in European competition in coming seasons.
From Manchester City’s perspective, the landscape remains complex. The Premier League giants recently struck a deal with Burnley to re-sign James Trafford, suggesting the long-term planning within the goalkeeping department remains active. But with Stefan Ortega still attracting interest and no concrete move imminent, a scenario in which both senior stoppers leave would likely force the club into significant late-window movement.
Should Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe go head-to-head for Ederson, it could drive the fee closer to Manchester City’s valuation and prompt the Premier League side to open the door to a transfer. On the other hand, Pep Guardiola may prefer stability between the posts after a turbulent 2024/25 campaign, with Ederson’s presence offering familiarity and experience.
For now, Manchester City may be forced to endure speculation around Ederson’s future right up until the final days of the summer, especially if a formal bid now lands on the table from Fenerbahçe in the coming days despite the Etihad’s firm intention to retain the Brazilian for the forthcoming campaign.
