Ajax have benefited from moves abroad, as sell-on clauses for Mohammed Kudus and Francisco Conceição have given the Amsterdam club at least four million euros in additional revenue.
AZ seemed poised to become the Eredivisie’s king of second-hand transfers this summer, but Ajax are now also making a move up in this regard. Kudus’ move from West Ham United to Tottenham Hotspur has already been completed, and it seems only a matter of time before Conceição makes the definitive move to Juventus. In both cases, Ajax will benefit.
Voetbal International: “Ajax negotiated a resale percentage of approximately 10 per cent for both players. For both Kudus and Conceição, Ajax specified the amount for which the player in question was sold. In the case of Kudus, the deal was for €43 million, which could have risen to €46 million. In the calculation below, we’ve used €46 million as the sale price. Conceição was sold to FC Porto for €10.5 million.
“We can conclude that Tottenham paid €63 million for Kudus, and that Conceição moved to Turin for over €30 million. Using these amounts in a calculation, with Ajax taking 10 per cent of the transfer profit, the club would collect €3.65 million through resale percentages. FC Porto would make a profit of €19.5 million on Conceição, and West Ham would collect €17 million that way.”
Furthermore, because Kudus and Conceição played for Ajax at a young age, the Amsterdam club is also entitled to training compensation. “Adding up all the amounts, the total comes to over four million euros through former players Kudus and Conceição.”
