Saudi Arabian youngster Marwan Al Sahafi was the hero for Beerschot on Sunday night. After Club Brugge had raced into a 2-0 lead, the side at the bottom of the Pro League table probably feared the worst. However, within the space of four minutes during the second half the side rooted to the basement of the league stunned title chasing Club Brugge. Al Sahafi grabbed his third and fourth goals of the season, both well taken finishes. The second involved some great dribbling skill as he went round the experienced Brandon Mechele.
The result means that Club Brugge were unable to take advantage of Genk’s heavy defeat away to Union St Gilloise. Antwerp were the main winners as they moved into second place. Beerschot remain 10 points adrift of safety and look sure fire to finish in the bottom four. If they can at least close the gap to those also destined for the relegation play off they could give themselves a chance of survival. This point against Club should certainly have them going into the international break with confidence.
