Mohamed Salah has ended speculation over his Liverpool future by signing a new two-year contract, extending his Anfield stay to a decade.

The deal, confirmed on Friday, comes after months of negotiations between Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, and Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes.

The financial details are undisclosed, but the 32-year-old is not taking a pay cut from his previous £350,000-a-week deal, which made him one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League.

Salah has cemented his place in Liverpool’s history, sitting third on their all-time goalscoring list with 243 goals in 394 appearances.

His importance to the team remains evident, particularly in their pursuit of the Premier League title this season.

Despite the option to negotiate with foreign clubs from January 1, Salah’s decision to remain at Liverpool had long been anticipated.

“I’m happy to sign a new contract. I think we have a chance to win more trophies,” Salah said.

“He added that his family, including his wife and two young daughters, also wanted to stay in Liverpool, which further reinforced his decision.

Salah credited his strong relationship with manager Arne Slot as another factor in his continued happiness at the club.

The Egyptian forward praised the open communication and mutual understanding with Slot, which has helped him improve his game.

Slot praised Liverpool’s efforts in securing Salah’s services, acknowledging that the player could have gone to numerous clubs, including those in the Saudi Pro League.

“It’s a big compliment for Richard [Hughes] that he achieved to extend Mo Salah’s contract,” Slot said.

“Mo’s decision shows the ambition of this club, not just him, but the owners as well.”

Salah has consistently been one of Liverpool’s standout players, scoring 30 or more goals in five of his seasons.

Slot believes that Salah’s target for the next two years is to maintain his remarkable consistency.

“We are always trying to reach perfection,” Slot added. “Mo is already close to the maximum of his ability. It’s about consistency and mentality, which is why Mo has been at this level for so long.”

Salah’s contract extension was announced just ahead of Liverpool’s match against West Ham United. Slot expressed his relief at the news, stating it would bring a positive vibe to the club.
