Mo Salah says there has been no progress in talks over a new deal at Liverpool and that he believes it will be his last year at the club.
Salah is in the final year of his current deal with the Reds and unless something changes, will end his eight-year stay at the club in the summer.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool’s highly anticipated clash with Manchester United, Salah said: “So far, yes, it’s the last six months.
“There is no progress there. We are far away from any progress.”
Salah has been involved in 30 Premier League goals in just 18 games this season, setting a record for the fewest games to reach that milestone in Premier League history.
Despite the contract uncertainty, Salah remains committed to finishing his Liverpool career on a high.
“The first thing that was on the list was to win the Premier League with Liverpool,” Salah said. “In my interviews over the last seven or eight years, I always say [I want to win the] Champions League. But this is the first time I’m saying I really want to win the Premier League with Liverpool.
Salah’s current form is a crucial factor in Liverpool’s Premier League charge, as they sit six points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.
“I have no idea [why priorities have shifted],” Salah continued. “It’s probably because we didn’t celebrate the one we won in the way we wanted and also, coming back here too, it’s my last year in the club so you want to do something special for the city.
“That was the thing in my head. We waited for that title for 30 years or so. So, to win it and it was the pandemic at that time, we didn’t really have time to celebrate it in the right way. It’s not a nice thing to do, so hopefully we can do it this year.”
Salah’s comments also come amid growing speculation over the futures of other key Liverpool players Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts are also set to expire in the summer.
“I still believe the team needs a trophy,” Salah added. “There is still half of the team left like me, Trent [Alexander-Arnold], Virgil [Van Dijk], Alisson, Robbo [Andy Robertson]. It’s necessary for us to win another trophy before we all go.”
