Ruud van Nistelrooy is wasting no time trying to get back to work after being let go by Manchester United earlier this week.

The legendary striker returned to Old Trafford in the summer as Erik ten Hag’s assistant coach.

Van Nistelrooy was then called upon to stop the rot after INEOS chiefs conceded defeat that Ten Hag was not the man for the job.

As a result, Van Nistelrooy became caretaker manager for a four-game period. It was clear from the start that the Dutch coach, unlike Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, would not be given the job permanently.

Ruben Amorim was the man they wanted as head coach and he decided earlier this week that he had no place for Van Nistelrooy on his coaching staff.

Every head coach and manager has a mind of their own and Amorim has opted to surround himself with people he has trusted for years during a successful spell at Sporting CP.

According to talkSPORT, Van Nistelrooy has already applied for the vacant manager role at Championship side Coventry City.

This would see Van Nistelrooy challenge himself in the second tier of English football. It’s a decent level and it shows has desperate he is to work in the Premier League.

Coventry are on the lookout for a new manager after the recent sacking of former United player and FA Cup-winner Mark Robins.

Van Nistelrooy, who has managerial experienced with PSV Eindhoven under his belt, doesn’t want to wait around with his intentions set on a quick return to work following a brief interim spell at Old Trafford.

Frank Lampard is also said to be in the running for the Coventry City job.

An earlier report suggested that Van Nistelrooy has caught the eye of several Premier League suitors such as West Ham, Crystal Palace and Southampton.

The question is where next for Van Nistelrooy?
