Manchester City continued their push for the Barclays Women’s Super League title by defeating struggling Leicester City 4-0 at The Joie Stadium this afternoon.

Khadija Shaw netted a brace while Jess Park and Mary Fowler were also on target for Gareth Taylor’s side.

The Cityzens got off to the perfect start when Kerstin Casparij delivered the ball to Shaw after two minutes and she sent her header into the back of the net.

Shaw then made it two just before the half-hour mark. She received the ball from a Leila Ouahabi cross and again sent a headed effort beyond Leicester City keeper Janina Leitzig for her ninth goal of the season.

Park scored Manchester City’s third goal of the afternoon early in the second half. Jill Roord played a neat pass to the England international and she fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

The Cityzens scored a fourth through Fowler nine minutes later. The ball dropped at the Australian international’s feet and she hit a shot on the volley, straight into the back of the net.

Shaw came close to adding a fifth Manchester City goal with a back-heel but fortunately for the visitors, the ball went wide as the game ended 4-0.

Manchester City are next in action on Thursday evening when they play host to SKN St Pölten in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage while Leicester City have a home tie against Birmingham City in the Women’s League Cup on Wednesday.
