Ruben Amorim says “one person leaving don’t change nothing” when asked about the sudden departure of Dan Ashworth from his role as sporting director of Manchester United.
The head coach was speaking with Tyrell Malacia at the pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League tie against Viktoria Plzen in the Czech Republic.
Amorim said “Since the first day I felt great support from the ownership, from Omar and Jason, and I was part of them. I felt real support from Dan also. This is football and sometimes these things happen.
“It’s not always the best situation because you have to think of the human being. But the important thing is we continue in our way. The path is really clear for everyone.
“Of course, it’s a bad situation. Like I said, we are talking about a human being, a professional, that supports us as a team but I think the most important thing is the vision is really clear and that don’t change if one person leaves.”
Amorim also confirmed Malacia would be in the starting XI for the game tomorrow.
He will start at left wing back, with Diogo Dalot likelyn to be rested ahead of the Manchester derby on Sunday.
Amorim now has a full squad available for selection other than Luke Shaw.
The boss was asked if he has been told he needs to sell players in order to buy in the forthcoming January transfer window.
“No, I’m really focused on to see my players and to understand my players. I think that is one of the problems of the club. We have to focus on what we have, we have to focus on the academy and you also have to have the clear profile when you get the players.
“So it’s a lot of details you have to manage. You can see in set pieces. Sometimes you look at our team, we are a small team compared to the others. Every detail counts and you have to be very clear first in the profiles, arrange all the process and then go to that phase of buying and selling players.
“But we have, like Ty[rell Malacia] international players, they are good players, and we need time to teach our idea and then we will see.
“Because this is a massive club. if you don’t win, the coach goes, the players goes, so you have to know that.
“So we have to improve as a team, we have to arrange a lot of things in our club, before thinking just in buying and selling players.
“There’s a lot to do, so let’s focus on improving our players, improving our academy, and then we’ll see.”
Malacia was asked how long he thinks it will take to get back to his best as he continues his comeback from a 550 day absence.
“I’m training every day so I have to improve week by week by playing games, of course.
“I could already see a difference between my first game against Bodo/Glimt and Arsenal, so I think that’s it.
“Other than that as a team we are improving and trying to adapt to the playing style of the manager and I’m happy.”
