Ruben Amorim makes huge Man Utd vow after Old Trafford debut | OneFootball

Ruben Amorim admitted he was amazed by the reception he received at Old Trafford during his first home game as Manchester United head coach and said he is keen to repay the faith of fans.

After leading the Red Devils to a draw in his bow after replacing Erik ten Hag, the 39-year-old led his new team to a 3-2 success over Bodo/Glimt on Thursday night as Rasmus Hojlund scored twice in a comeback victory.

United remain unbeaten since Ten Hag's departure a month ago and Amorim said he was touched by how supporters welcomed him to the club.

He told reporters after the game: "It was special because half of the stadium doesn't know me. You can say I came from Portugal, and half of the stadium doesn't know me. I have done nothing for this club yet, but the way they support me in the beginning, I felt that I'm not alone.

"I'm like one of them now, and it was really special. I hope not to disappoint my supporters.

"I think we improved different things since the last game. I know it's a different competition, different team, but we improve with the ball. We control the tempo more with the ball, we push the team a little bit more higher, we create more chances.

"We should kill the game before the end. You suffer two transitions. I think we need to improve on that because it was like runs, it was like a physical thing, one against one. You have to improve on that, but I like some things that the team did."

United will hope to rise above 12th in the Premier League when they clash with Everton on Sunday. After that, Amorim faces his first really big test when he takes his squad to Arsenal on Wednesday.
