The recent raft of unfortunate injury news affecting his roster didn't prevent RB Leipzig trainer Marco Rose from conveying a cheerful attitude about the packed weeks ahead while speaking at his Friday pre-match presser. Despite the fact that Lutsharel Geertruida and Castello Lukeba are only just returning from injury, Rose expressed confidence that the pair would be ready to make their contribution over the course of eight matches in four weeks.
"They are fit and in top shape," Rose said of Geertruida and Lukeba, "and will have to deliver immediately. I'm approaching the high-intensity phase before Christmas with a very positive attitude. I don't think there's any correlation between intensity and injury."
The loss of David Raum has forced right-back Benjamin Henrichs to fill in on the left side of defense. In the event that Geerturida can't play 90 minutes or re-aggravates his muscle injury, Lukas Klostermann also remains qualified to start on the right. Rose had an interesting addition to his options on the right to add. A youngster who has thus far played only in midfield could move back.
"We now have five defenders for four positions for the next few weeks," Rose said, "If you count Nicolas Seiwald as a right-back, we're back up to six. It's great that we have such versatile players.”
