Fabrizio Romano rarely has a quiet day, and yesterday was no exception.
He confirmed Liam Delap’s move to the Blues, although David Ornstein of the Athletic beat him to the punch. Not willing to be second best, Romano returned with a wave of information about other players we’re being linked with.
Marc Guiu looks to have injured himself against West Ham.
One interesting spin off from that soon to be completed deal with Ipswich is Romano’s claim that the Suffolk club have made a separate inquiry about Marc Guiu.
The former Barcelona forward has just had a frustrating season where he spent a lot of time on the bench and then got injured just as his chance to start some games came along. With Delap on the way in, there will be even less room for him next season, and a loan to Ipswich in the Championship does sound like a good idea.
He could hopefully replace Delap there and play regularly, getting used to the English game and learning under Kieran McKenna, who is already proving to be a very promising young coach.
“Ipswich have asked for Marc Guiu on loan… one season for the boy to play, to have regular game time, let’s see what Guiu decides, because Chelsea could be quite open, Chelsea would be happy to send the player to somewhere in England rather than in Spain. But it’s also down to the player, so let’s see what happens.”
You can see Romano speaking in the clip embedded here, with this discussion coming after 2 minutes:
By the sounds of things, Chelsea aren’t going to be satisfied just with Delap: Romano names a few other options they’ve got on their list. With Christopher Nkunku likely on the way out too, that should be no surprise.
There should be no repeat of this season’s false 9 period.
